about PRT
Positive Response Training Ltd. is a training company which provides one of the UK’s leading physical management training packages, Positive Behaviour Management, which has been in use since 1989. PBM training is accredited by the British Institute for Learning Disabilities (BILD) and is safe, non-aversive, doesn’t use any pain compliance techniques and supported by empirical research findings.
Positive Response Training Ltd was re-accredited in April 2006 by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) for a further three years, 2006-2009.
Since it began in 1999, PRT has continued to develop and refine training for people working in the field of intellectual impairments. Initially, the training centred on adult service users, but recently there has been an increasing demand for strategies and interventions which can be used with younger service users. There are also frequent requests for help with unusual situations, such as how to manage a physically handicapped service user who presents with challenging behaviour. In the future, PRT hopes that parents and other family carers might also have access to Positive Behaviour Management training and other PRT training packages.
PRT's latest development is Active Support training, which directly complements PBM through a proactive emphasis on encouraging and maintaining desired behaviour.
