Why use us?

Positive Response provides advice and safe approaches for the prevention and management of complex challenging behaviours within the learning disability sector. Our focus is on the quality of life of the service user and the safety of both staff and service users alike. Services are provided by specialists who have extensive experience working in the field of challenging behaviour and Positive Behaviour Support.

Mission Statement

Our aim is to provide high quality, evidence-based training and consultancy solutions for people who present with complex behavioural challenges. We do so by adopting person-centred, socially valid approaches to the prevention and safe management of difficult behaviours. We work in partnership with referring organisations to improve the quality of life of those they serve and to reduce their use of restrictive practices.

Positive Behaviour Management training was developed by Professor David Allen and Tony Doyle while working with the Intensive Support Service of what is now Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board in Wales. It has been accredited by BILD since 2002. It is reaccredited every three years and the current accreditation is valid until June 2012.

What can we do for you?

Positive Response offers a consultancy service which encourages organisations to work in partnership with us to explore solutions to problematic situations and to reduce the need for more restrictive interventions. The aim is to explore the causative and maintaining factors for the challenging behaviours and to reduce their impact and the likelihood of these behaviours occurring using the least restrictive approaches.

Training in Positive Behaviour Management training may be provided where the level of risk posed is increased.  Whilst it is acknowledged that physical interventions may be included in some individuals’ support packages, Positive Response delivers training with a focus on an agenda of ‘Restraint Reduction’ and strongly advocates for a move away from training care staff in purely reactive strategies to a system of Positive Behavioural Support.

The BILD accredited Positive Behaviour Management training programme is one of the few reactive strategy training approaches to have any accompanying research into its effectiveness.  It is designed for staff working with adults or children with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders or acquired brain injury.
