What we do

Positive Response offers a range of consultancy services and training courses.

Consultancy

Positive Response offers a consultancy service to a wide range of organisations or individuals who provide care and who are experiencing difficulties supporting individuals with learning disabilities who display challenging behaviours.  These individuals may be supported in a variety of care settings including formal care settings and family homes.

Consultancy services may be offered as a follow-up to users of Positive Behaviour Management training and may include advice about ecological factors, data collection and analysis and producing Positive Behaviour Support plans. In addition advice may be provided regarding the application of physical interventions and if necessary provide individually focused bespoke training solutions.

The consultancy service is also available to organisations and families who do not currently use the PBM approach but may either be seeking advice regarding behaviour difficulties or training for carers. Once again the input from Positive Response will focus on how and why the behaviour is occurring within the care setting and explore solutions which may include additional staff training being provided. Consultation services offered by Positive Response should be considered as a complementary addition to most behavioural management approaches already being used by organisations.

Positive Behaviour Management Training

Positive Behaviour Management training is suitable for staff working in the learning disability sector with adults or children and, if referred through social services, we can also provide training for parents/family carers

Positive Behaviour Management training (PBM) is a non-aversive tried and tested alternative to other potentially harmful physical management techniques that are routinely taught. None of our procedures uses pain to achieve compliance.

PBM training focuses on the prevention of behavioural incidents, proactively working towards reducing the use of restrictive interventions. Following a gradient of support the training package also offers a menu of robust techniques to safely manage difficult situations if they occur. These techniques consist of breakaway moves and a limited number of restraint procedures, should they be required, all supported by underpinning knowledge and values stemming from evidence-based practice and empirical research.

Positive Behaviour Management can either be delivered directly to your staff or you can train your own trainers so they can deliver in-house training for you.

"The multi-component nature of the training promotes an holistic response to the management of complex behaviour. The focus on quality of life gains, development of service user competencies and menu of proactive/reactive strategies is a balance that enhances our ability to effectively support individuals and organisations."
